Berita asal
A Philippine news portal reported that a spokesman of the Sulu Sultanate claimed that its army killed 8 Malaysian soldiers yesterday in a fresh shoot-out in Lahad Datu, Sabah.
ABS-CBN quoted Abraham Idrijani as saying that the shootout took place last Friday in the hinterlands of Felda Lahad Datu where his 50-men troop ambushed some 200 Malaysian soldiers in an open field.
Idjirani said the incident was not reported in Malaysian media so as not to contradict the security clearance on Sabah given by the Malaysian government following the invasion by Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram III’s forces earlier this year.
Idjirani’s claim was however denied by both Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) director general Mohammad Mentek and state police commissioner Hamza Taib.
Mentek dismissed the claim as baseless, describing it as nothing more than propaganda to create fear and disharmony.
He added that security was put on high alert, as speculation was rife that Sulu fighters had been planning for a second intrusion during Hari Raya holidays.
Hamza meanwhile said there were no new clashes between security forces and Sulu terrorists.
